Laser Cutting for the Medical Industry

Laser Cutting for the Medical Industry
Laser Cutting for the Medical Industry

At Trupart Manufacturing, we were asked by a medical industry customer to perform laser cutting on a component that was known as a fork. We had done this kind of work for medical customers for years, and knew about the tight tolerances, blemish free surfaces, and sanitary conditions this project required. We used extreme quality control measures when we procured the 3/16" thick stainless steel needed for the forks, after which we cut multiple prototypes to ensure proper fit. Following customer approval, we then cut the steel with our 4400-watt laser cutter with nitrogen assist gas. Our nitrogen assist gas is known to deliver clean cut surfaces that are burr-free, a perfect combination for medical applications. We then ground the edges and produced a smooth radius, followed by hand polishing to a mirror finish. We used visual and dimensional inspections and verified the integrity of the forks before they were packaged and shipped. The forks had overall dimensions of 9" x 10" and were cut to demanding tolerances of ±.005". We cut the forks to ISO 9001 standards and delivered 5,000 in only one month to our customer in Camarillo, CA.

This project showcased our custom metalworking for the demanding medical industry, during which we worked closely with vendors and ensured all materials met the specifications mandated by our client. To learn more about us, contact us directly.
