Laser Cut Components for a Knee Hinge

At Trupart Manufacturing, we had been making medical components for over 40 years when a customer asked us to laser cut stop plates for joint and limb supports. Medical component cutting and assembly are notorious for stringent tight tolerances, defect free surfaces, and sanitary conditions under all of which these parts had to be manufactured. We did the prototyping for these knee joint components and cut multiple preliminary runs for both form and fit before we were ready for production. After our customer approved the prototype, we used our 4400 Kw laser cutter to cut the plates and our press brake. We deburred the aluminum plates, tap-drilled them, and assembled them using steel rivets. The 1" x 3" plates, which were cut to exacting tolerances of ±.005", were visually and physically inspected, packaged, and shipped. Because of our assembly and quantity production expertise, we were able to hold rejects to under .5% throughout the entire cutting and assembly operation. We conformed to ISO 9001 standards and manufactured 10,000 of the plates in only four weeks, which subsequently we delivered to our customer in Santa Paula, CA.
